Rehab the New Black???

Is Rehab the new Black?

Lately in the headlines, all we have seen is Celebs going in and out of drug and alcohol binges as well as in and out of rehabs. Celebs notorious for this behaviour include Amy Winehouse, Kelly Osbourne, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Robert Downey Jr and Eminem.

Whilst I am sure these celebrities are facing their own demons, trials and tribulations, it makes me wonder if they ever consider how harmful there actions can be to both themselves and those who look up to them and more importantly do they take their admission seriously?

I just want you girls to know that drug and alcohol consumption can be very dangerous and can have serious consequences. When you see all the trashy snapshots of these stars stumbling around with smudged makeup you can’t help but laugh, but what you don’t see is behind the scenes.

Drugs such as Speed, Ice, Heroin, Cocaine, GHB, Ecstasy, Marijuana and even Alcohol and Tobacco can become easily addictive and easily over-consumed. Some of the consequences of consuming can be both physical and mental such as anorexia, skin and mouth ulcers, deteriorating teeth, sleep disorders and mental illness. Sexual assault can also be linked to drug and alcohol consumption.

The Australian Government have launched a new campaign to raise awareness about drug and alcohol consumption with an accompanying website: http://www.drugs.health.gov.au

Check it out.

I don't like how celebrities "glamorize" rehab. Drug and alcoholic addiction is a serious issue and people recovering must have a thorough procedure at Rehab, rather then 'going in and out' of rehab for a few days like celebrities.

Plus I don't like how it gives "rehab" a bad name. We think of rehab for drug and alcohol, rehabilitation can be for people with serious injuries such as head or spinal injury.
