Teen Beauty 101: How to create the "I don't do make up" look

You know sometimes you see that girl at the train station who has the natural glow thing going on? Realising that no, she isn't pregnant, so it's not a glowing mother hormone thing, you become extremely envious of her "it requires no effort to look this good" statement. as she gives you the "I don't do make up" glance.

Well, we have the tricks, tips and trialed products that will give you that natural glow with the least effort necessary. All it takes is two easy steps!

Step One: all about base
It all starts with a good base - that means healthy, clean, glowing skin. The more your skin is in good shape the less makeup required! So, to get skin looking fab, there's some (but not much) preparation required. Ok, so I know you may be thinking "What!? You just said that achieving this look requires minimal effort and now you are saying we need to prepare!" I understand that, but every great work requires a little preparation and after this step it will be a big fat piece of chocolate mud cake!

Before-hand
Skin care is one of the greatest tricks of all. Looking after your skin by cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising eliminates blemishes before they occur, therefore, no cover- up make up required! Of course, we love Bellaboo's Starter kit ($54.95) for that fresh start to beautiful glowing skin.

Tip: For unwanted red spots, try using Bellaboo's EZ Blitz Serum ($19.95) to zap those zits.

Exfoliating is also a great preparation step if you want to enhance your skin's glow with a fake tan or bronzer. This allows skin to be buffed and smooth before the tan goes on, giving you the most natural result.

A great product from Skinwear is the Exfoliating Buffa Bar ($12.95), which allows you to prepare your skin for the ultimate glow factor.

"The Skin Wear Exfoliating Buffa Bar left my legs feeling so good and smooth. I will definitely keep using this product. 9/10"
- Christy-Lee

Tip: Seeing as your skin achieves its best renewal potential at night, try exfoliating before you go to bed, so tanning at night after your shower is the best option. It's just like Christmas all over again waking up to see the results of your night's work!

The Perfect Prods
Tap into your inner tan goddess by using a flawless non-streak, easy to apply and quick, dry tanning product. Impossible you say! Guess not, because the lovelies at Skinwear have created a perfect solution. The Tan and Go Professional Bronzing Spray ($39.95) - it comes in two gorgeous glowing shades of light-medium and medium-dark.

"I'm sure you all know by now girls; if you can't make it, then fake it. We've all seen the sketchy fake tan jobs that make us cringe but with it being summer holidays and all, it's 'bout time we get it down pat, yeah? Your answer is this - Skin Wear by Fantasy Tan Australia. This is a spray tan and is way easy to use. Once sprayed on, rub in to ensure an even spread and it dries in no time at all."
- Lucy

Tip: To extend your luscious colour, use the Skinwear Tan Extending Moisture Mist ($29.95).

For a less permanent tan, opt for Sally Hansen's Airbrush Legs ($27.25), which leaves you with a smooth creamy texture and a natural tan. It's available in various shades and colours so you can't go wrong.

"This is the bomb! Seriously, it's like foundation for your bod. Simply spray it on and you skin looks instantly tanned and so, so smooth!!
- Ash

Tip: Before applying fake tan, lightly rub moisturiser into the areas of your body which tend to be more dry (ie: heels, elbows, knees) to avoid dark splotches on these areas.

Make sure you have a primed canvas to start with. Use Australis' Primer ($13.95) before using a foundation or powder. This ensures a smooth and flawless surface.

"This works as an undercoat to foundation/ bronzer and locks in colour so it doesn't fade and lasts longer. It is a light crème which leaves your skin feeling soft and replenished."
- Lucy

Tip: Only use a light coat for optimum results.

Cover up those panda eyes from a big night out with Australis' Colour Corrector ($12.90) or Liquid Concealer Pen ($15.90).

"The Liquid Concealer Pen is now my new favourite product! It fits easily in my make-up case, has an easy application brush as well as affectively covering any unwanted marks. Blemishes be gone! 4/5"
- Sarah

Tip: Mix in green eye shadow to cover red blemishes, such as pimples and rashes. Mix yellow eye shadow to cover black bags under your tired eyes.

Make sure your foundation matches perfectly with your skin tone and has great coverage. There is no point going to all the trouble of perfecting your base when you are just going to ruin it with a tacky looking foundation that is two shades too dark.

Artistry Self Defining Sheer Foundation will never let you down. It has the smoothest of textures - so smooth in fact that it feels like you're wearing no make up at all.

Tip: Test your foundation on your jaw line to see how well it will blend in with your natural skin colour. Don't try testing it on the back of your hand or your cheeks as the skin colour varies in these areas and, in some cases is not only a different tone but can be two or three shades darker.

Step Two: highlighter please
So you have your base down and it is magnificent, but you're sure it's missing something. It is. Highlights! The perfect highlight areas are your eyelids, cheeks, tip of your nose, tip of your chin, eyebrow line and mid-forehead. When blended correctly, your whole face really seems to have a luminescence about it.

Before-hand
Choose a colour scheme before deciding on which products you are going to use to highlight your features. Try and match the colour scheme to the natural tones in your skin for a more natural appearance.

Tip: If your skin has beige tones with a mixture of peach or pink you should opt for a softer pastel toned highlight. If your skin has an olive tone opt for more warm colours, such as golds and browns. If your skin tends to have a more yellow tone, then stay away from pinks and ivories. Instead, stick with warm hues that contain a yellow base.

The Perfect Prods
Bronzers work like a charm and quite often can be doubled as cheek rouge. A great bronzer is the Designer Brands Pressed Powder ($7.99), which not only gives your face a natural glow but can be used all over your body, and when applied on collarbones, creates a glowing neckline.

"Another savior by Designer Brands. This fab product comes in two shades; winter (for lighter skin like mine) and summer (for already bronzed skin). I can't get enough of it! 5/5"
- Sarah

Tip: Before applying all over face, dab small amounts with a larger brush on the areas which are mostly hit by light such as the tip of the nose, chin, middle forehead and cheeks. Then blend in with an all-over coat.

To accentuate eyes, use a natural toned eye shadow as a base colour and then add additional and lighter lines along lids for a shimmering look. To create a smokey look, use a darker eyeliner along the lid and smudge in as desired. A great base colour is the Designer Brands Xtreme Crème Eyeshadow in brown, gold or bronze ($6.99).

"Unlike other eye shadows, this doesn't crease or rub off easily. It's perfect for pulling all-nighters. You can even sleep in it and wake up with perfect eye shadow. I'm not saying you should though, as I'm not guaranteeing the rest of your make up will be flawless. 4/5 "
- Sarah

Tip: Ease a light eye shadow or even your concealer along the inside browline to accentuate eyes. Blend in as desired.
