Beauty Raves: Hot winter makeup looks

Our fave makeup artist to the stars, Fiona Corrigan-Robertson, gives us her top tips for getting the latest winter looks just right.

This winter it is all about shimmery, pearly skin and berry stained lips and nails.

The hottest item for your makeup bag is white liquid highlighter (liquid shimmer). You mix it into your foundation before applying or dab some on the inside corner of eyes, above the cheekbone and on the cupid’s bow of the mouth, to add a fresh sheen. Your skin will be left with a gorgeous highlighted shimmer. .

Blush has to look as if your face has been kissed by the winter sun, like a touch of warmth creating a subtle glow across your face. Apply crème blush lightly with your finger tips, patting and blending across the bridge of your nose and the apples of the cheeks (this is the fleshy part that pops up when you smile).

The look for eyes is minimal. Use eyeshadows from a neutral palette. Apply beige or biscuit tones all over the lid. Follow with a light to medium colour, like a light warm beige to the socket, and blend well into the crease.

Using an eyelash curler, curl your lashes to open up your eye.Curl your lashes first and then apply two coats of either a black or brown mascara.

Lip shades in dark berry, plum and burgundy tones are so hot this season with matching nail polish.

"What I love most about makeup isthe way it can be used to enhance your best features or downplay imperfections So, just have a little fun with with it…it really mustn’t be taken too seriously…well maybe a little seriously. Fi x"

Get some shimmer into your life and you will be forever thankful for this hot beauty tip from our Miss Makeup Marvel Fi! Seriously, this can give your skin incredible luminescence, making it look sooooo glowing and gorgeous! To get some shimmer into your life try these beauties:

Napoleon Perdis Light Patrol Luminizer Palette ($70.00).
One compact wonder with a choice of shadesto give you the desired effect. For example, use the shimmering bronze for that sun-kissed effect. For a more rosy effect, the pink and purple shades are ideal. This product adds a shimmery, light-reflecting quality and makes skin look vibrant. Napoleon Perdis China Doll Colour Veil ($40.00)
This gorgeous creme is a multifunctional miracle. It can be applied to lips for instantcolour, rubbed into cheeks as an elegant tinted sheen blush or blended into eyelids for that extra colour. Might I add, the packaging is the sexiest thingI have seen for quite a while!

Shadow Me!
Fave picks of some subtle shades to create the look that Fi is talkin’ about:

Nutrimetics Satin Smooth Eyeshadow ($14.00).
These eyeshadows appear natural, yet add a shimmery effect. The almost appear to have gold flecks in them which adds a beautiful finishing touch to makeup. They eyeshadow does not clump in the crease of the eyelid like most, and therefore lasts longer.

Lash Me!

1000 Hour Heated Eyelash Curler ($17.95)
This is my new lash saviour. Not only does this product sound professional, it works like a charm. With minimal effort, the heated eyelash curler curls the eyelashes dramatically and last for hours and hours. All you need to do is put on a lick of mascara and wait until it dries, use the heated eyelash curler and voila! Eyelashes are curled perfectly. No crimping or breakage of lashes.

Jess rating: 5/5

Beauty Grooves Flutter PowerLash Curler ($7.95)
These sexy miracle makers not only do wonders for small eyelashes but look great too! The cute pink handles make yourmake-up case look just that little bit more snazzy!

TIP: Just remember girlies, apply your mascara AFTER you curl your lashes in this instance or you'll end up ripping them out! Also, application after curling ensures a more natural look, otherwise you can end up with a crimp mark, I learnt this from personal experience! Not fun!

Napoleon PerdisPeep Show Madame Beyond Lengthening Mascara ($30.00)
Finding the perfect lengthening mascara that gives those lashes lashings of volume with no clumping and some subtle separation is like searching for the holy grail of makeup. It is the one item we are constantly seeking to find and we try countless brands in our quest for luscious lashes. Well, search no more – we have found the holy grail of mascaras! Peep Show Madame Beyond Lengthening Mascara by Napolean, brings out those little un-noticed eyelashes and transforms them into glam movie star length lashes that scream volume. This is probably the darkest mascara I have ever used, and thanks to the curved mascara stick you can get your eyelashes just the way you always wanted them. No clogging and perfect separation – the search is over!

The Body Shop Super volume Mascara (01) ($21.95)
This mascara has a great consistancy so it goes on well without clumping, and stays on well without crumbling off. It gives dull lashes great volume shape and colour.

Dark berry and plum are the “it” shades this season and perfectly offset the subtle eye makeup that Fi has recommended. Here’s are our fave berry lip and nail shades:

The Body Shop lipstick (33) ($21.95)
Plums and Berries are really hot right now and this lippy is a prime example. This gorgeous plum has quite a matt finish but leaves your lips looking and feeling luscious and sexy.

This gorgeous earthy colour looks great and has a sexy metallic sheen for thatglossy look.

Sarah rating: 4/5

Napoleon Perdis Devine Goddess Lipstick (Zoe)($30.00)
This lipstick creates luscious, cushiony looking lips that are definitely kissable. The colour is bright, sexy, and lasts longer than any other lipstick I’ve used. It also spreads evenly and easily.

Jess rating: 5/5

Nutrimetics Polish (Antique Poppy Coquelicot) ($19.50)
This nail polish has a nice pink tint to it.I think it's great as it isn't too harsh against lighter complexion skin like mine, yet still has a plum colour.
