If you’ve kinda noticed that with winter comes a whole new set of skin dramas then we are here to put an end to your winter skin woes!
Baby it’s cold outside and you’re a mess – your lips are dry and cracked and your skin feels as if it’s got a thousand insects crawling all over it and you can’t stop itching. Sound familiar? The combination of cold blowing winds, indoor heating and the going in and out from hot to cold, and even your warm winter woollies, all contribute to woefully dry and irritating winter skin.
Basically indoor heating is taking the humidity out of the air and at the same time your oil production eases up a bit during the winter months. You winter woollies can even draw out moisture from your skin. So, you will find yourself itching and scratching with dry, scaly reptile-like legs and lips that are so not kissable! What to do?
Just like you change from summer wardrobe to winter wardrobe your beauty routine needs a little adjusting during the winter months. Follow these steps and you will be back to moisturised, soft, luscious skin and lips.

Step 1
As humidity and hydration are sucked out of the air during winter
it stands to reason that you need to be ultra focused on staying hydrated
- that means drinking plenty of water. Drinking about 8 glasses a
day will help hydrate from within.

Step 2
Steer clear of harsh cleansers as they will just aggravate your dry,
sensitive skin. Opt for a sodium-lauryl sulphate-free facial wash.
We luuurve Bellaboo All
That Clean Skin Facial Wash – super gentle, SLS-free and packed
with yummy natural stuff!

Step 3
Up the exfoliation factor. Your skin will tend to be more flaky so
it is ESSENTIAL to exfoliate away those dead, flaky cells. If you
leave them hanging around it’s just an invitation to party with oil
to clog your pores and bring on a party gate-crasher – pimples! 2-3
times a week should be fine. Steer clear of apricot pits or hard,
scratchy products. Remember, your skin is itchy/scratchy so anything
that has that hard, scratch effect is going to make you more itchy/scratchy.
We love Bellaboo
Buff Skin Facial Exfoliator. Its super-fine exfoliating particles
gently exfoliate away the bad stuff and leave skin smooth and glowing.
Now, if you don’t exfoliate past your neck in summer now is the time
to take that exfoliating action to all over your body – paying particular
attention to those scaly legs.

The Body Shop Brazil Nut Body
Scrub
This rich, irresistible smell, also known as "heaven in a tub", isn’t
just any ordinary body butter. It actually contains small bits of
brazil nut which acts to exfoliate your skin leaving it super silky
and sexy.

Step 4
Your lips are particularly prone to dryness and flakiness ‘cos they
don’t have oil glands. Avoid licking them in an attempt to keep them
moist as this will only make them dry out more as the cold air/wind
hits them. Use a lip balm daily during winter. Opt for one that is
petroleum-free as petroleum can have a pore-clogging affect, making
it hard for the moisture to get to where it needs to be. Shea butter
is a fabulous ingredient for lip balms – it’s all natural, intensely
moisturising and conditioning. Another great thing to do for lips
is to exfoliate them. We love Naked Kiss Lip Spa
– a cute as pie compact with four essential lip saving formulas to
exfoliate, moisture, restore and protect lips.
Naked Kiss Lip Spa
This luscious lip treatment not only smells great but works wonders
on chapped lips. This quad has an easy 4 step program with an exfoliator,
moisturiser, restorer and sealer, leaving lips pouty and juicy.
Plump + Polish Lip Treatment Collagen
Booster
This lip stick not only gives you a transparent, natural, shimmering
shine, but it plumps up your lips so that you can have fuller, even
more kissable lips! Great for parties or just going out in general!

Step 5
Don’t forget the sun. You still need sun block in winter – just because
it’s cold outside doesn’t mean the sun’s rays have taken a holiday.
As your body is generally not exposed, pay attention to protecting
the face with a sunscreen or SPF factor foundation.

Step 6
Moisturise face and body twice daily or more if you need it. Your
moisturiser is your line of defence and protection against the elements
so you absolutely need to moisturise – EVERYWHERE! Stick with gentle,
natural products that do not contain fragrances or drying alcohols.
For your face, we love Bellaboo
Gorgeous Skin Moisture Dew – packed full of natural botanicals,
it is a light, fast-absorbing and deeply nourishing daily moisturiser.
On your body, you can opt for a thicker, more intense cream. Another
great tip, for some added moisture boost, is to mix a little of your
moisturiser into your foundation. We love...
The Body Shop Hazelnut Shea Body
Butter
Smooth, creamy texture with a slight, pleasant scent. Rubs in quickly
and leaves skin very soft and smooth.
Kosmea Radiant Hand & Body Lotion
This was my fave product of the month. I mainly used it on my hands,
which left them silky, smooth and looking revived, thanks to the special
ingredient of rose hip oil. The best bit about this product is that
it actually has shimmer inside it leaving a sexy glittery sheen!
Bloom French Lavender Body Butter
This smells oh so delicious! It's nice and smooth, and just a lil'
of this pretty potion goes a long way. It contains all kinds of special
oils and extracts that work to moisturise the skin. Using this body
butter after your bath or shower is an easy way to give your skin
an extra boost of hydration - especially handy going into winter.

Step 7
Keep showers quick and not too hot. Long, hot showers strip the oil
from your skin making it more prone to dryness. You should be spending
10 minutes tops in a warm, not hot, shower. It’s better for your skin
and the environment!

Step 8
Forget fake tanning in winter as you will just look ridiculous! Opt
instead for using bronzer to highlight your temples, cheekbones and
the bridge of your nose to soften the winter pallor.

Step 9
Don’t forget your tooties – keeping them couped up in socks and boots
all day makes them susceptible to dry and cracked skin, particularly
around the heels. The solution is simple – keep those tootsies moisturised.
We love Palmers Foot Magic.
Palmers Foot Magic
This is the perfect spa-like treatment for footies that have been
dancing away or been cooped up in boots all winter.
